16 Year Old Killed in Collapse of Magnolia Home under Construction

On May 28, 2024, at about 12:25 PM, the Magnolia Fire Department and Montgomery County EMS responded to reports that two homes under construction had collapsed during a severe thunderstorm. A preliminary investigation has determined that the workers noticed the houses began to shift during the thunderstorm and all but one were able to exit before they collapsed.

Upon their arrival, first responders quickly located a trapped 16 year old male. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that the juvenile male was not able to exit the structure and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The juvenile male is confirmed to be an employee of the construction company and was authorized to be on site. Next of kin has been notified of this incident, however, the juvenile’s name will not be released.

The Montgomery County Structural Collapse team was called to the scene to stabilize the structures and extricate the victim from the debris.

The team includes specialists from The Woodlands, Conroe, and North Montgomery County Fire Departments.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit along with Crime Scene is on location conducting an investigation. Although there does not appear to be a criminal element, it is the Sheriff’s Office policy that an investigation be done for all Fatal Industrial Accidents.

The deceased was transported to the Montgomery County Forensics Center where an autopsy will be conducted.
